Friday the 13th

Dear Aunt Edith,

My Friday the 13th this month went horrible. The superstition is true! How can I prepare myself for another one?”

Dear FridayTheThirteenthEqualsBADNESS,

There is a ton of superstition about bad luck. Walking under ladders, cracking mirrors, spilling salt, opening an umbrella indoors, spotting a black cat, and other crazy things that can lead to “bad luck” is most likely not true.

It is highly likely that you had a bad day on the thirteenth, but it could also be you being overly paranoid. There isn’t much you can do to “prepare” for the next one. But you can relax a little.

Phillips Stevens, Jr., associate professor of anthropology at the University at Buffalo (SUNY), claims that the origin of the unluckiness of Friday the 13th dates back to the life of Jesus Christ.

So next time, just relax and tell yourself it’ll be another day. Good luck! 😉

With Love,

Aunt Edith

P.S. There’s one in March. 😀
