THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON THE FIRST BOOK ONLY IN THE DIVERGENT SERIES, DIVERGENT, AND NOT ON THE SECOND OR THIRD BOOKS, OR THE COMPANION, FOUR.
If you liked The Hunger Games, The Giver, and/or the Maze Runner, you will definitely like this book. Beatrice is a girl who lives in a Uptopian Society many years after the fall of our civilizations now. In this Utopia are five faction: Amity, where the happy live; Erudite, where the smart live; Candor, where the honest live; Dauntless, where the brave live; and Abnegation, where Beatrice and the selfless live.
Each year, the grade of children that turn 16 choose what faction they would like to live in for the rest of their lives. Among these is the protagonist, Beatrice. To help each child decide, they take an aptitude test, which highly recommends one choice. After Beatrice’s test, the distributer tells her she is equally able to be a part of three factions, a rare and dangerous result.
Beatrice is told she must not tell anybody, because if anyone found out, she would most likely be killed. At the Choosing Ceremony, she chooses Dauntless as Tris. Can Tris pass the Initiation course of Dauntless and keep the biggest secret of her life?
I enjoyed this book, though maybe not as much as the Hunger Games series. You should definitely read this series!
