“Dear Aunt Edith,
My best friend is obsessed with this book. She talks about it ALL THE TIME!!!!! Then she just shoved it into my hands one day and was like, ‘Read it,’ and I was like, ‘Okay.’ So, of course, I read it because I knew it mattered to her… But I REALLY don’t like it. Like, I think it’s one of my least favorite books. Do I tell her I don’t like it or should I pretend I like it to keep her happy?”
People have different opinions about a lot of things: the upcoming presidential debate, favorite foods, movies, and yes, books. Sometimes it can be very easy to disagree with someone, for example, a sibling, a parent, an enemy/someone you don’t particularly like… Your best friends can be hard to disagree with, especially if it’s something that really matters to them. The best thing to do is when she asks you whether you liked it or not, gently lay the truth on her. Tell her that you, personally, didn’t particularly like it, but can see why she would like it.
If she’s really your friend, she would understand and not get upset about it. She might be a little disappointed, but you should let her be. Good luck!
P.S. I’d love to hear from all my readers! If you ever need any advice, write me a letter in the comments!
