5 Great TV Shows

Here’s a list of five great TV shows that you should get into if you’re bored (presented in no particular order – but best for last *insert wink*).

  • Heroes – Created by Tim Kring; 2006-2010; Four Seasons; One Spinoff Show
    • This show is great mix of science fiction and drama. It’s about people who discover that they have special abilities, superpowers if you will. The show’s first season is very strong, but unfortunately the quality decreases season by season. Also, Heroes Reborn recently came out and is a spinoff show of Heroes.
  • Once Upon a Time – Created By Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis; 2011-Present; Five Seasons So Far
    • If you enjoyed the classic Disney movies about princesses and fairies when you were little, you should try out this show. Its about a woman who comes to Storybrooke, Maine, where fairytales are real. It takes a darker and more modern spin on the typical “damsel in distress” love stories. While I haven’t watched the entirety of the show, my best friend has and believe me, she has filled me in on a lot more than just the basics.
  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Created by the almighty Joss Whedon; 2013-Prearsent; 3 Seasons So Far
    • If you’ve seen The Avengers, The Avengers 2, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, etc, then you’ve probably come across the mysterious agents of SHIELD at some point. If you want t get a closer look at what goes on behind the secretive government agency, this show is for you. Another science fiction/drama show.
  • Empire – Created by Danny Strong and Lee Daniels; 2015-Present; 3 Seasons So Far
    • I haven’t seen this show, but the other Julia has and she really likes it. According to the all-powerful IMDb, “a hip-hop mogul must choose between his three sons who are battling for control over his multi-million dollar company, while his ex-wife schemes to get what’s hers.”
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Created by the almighty Joss Whedon; 1997-2003; 7 Seasons, One Spinoff Show, Many Comics
    • The oldest, longest, and best show on this list. Buffy is a show for everyone to enjoy. A teenage girl is Chosen to be the Vampire Slayer, or “she who hangs out a lot in cemeteries,” which means she must battle the forces of evil with her friends and her Watcher, Giles. This masterpiece is a mix of mostly drama, as well as some horror, tons of comedy, sometimes mystery, and so much more. While the first season is mildly outdated, the six other seasons are worth watching, rewatching, and rewatching again. This show will make you laugh almost as much as it will make you cry. It also has a spinoff show called Angel.

I hope you’ve found at least one new show to watch if you’re bored. What are your favorite shows? List them in the comments!

Wonder Woman First Look and Suicide Squad Trailer!!

As you may already know, Wonder Woman the movie is coming out in 2017. She is personally my all time favorite superhero because she is a strong, independent woman who don’t need no man…
Anyway, there was a first look on the CW (which you can find here) on Wednesday, January 21, 2016. The ten second parts of the movie look pretty epic and exciting. Just on thing. It doesn’t show any easter eggs or anything like that. I don’t think. When First Looks air, they usually include small, .5 seconds of a detail that could change the whole plot than what the viewer thinks. In my opinion, it looks pretty awesome, but also holey. I understand that it’s only a first look and the makers of the movie don’t want to give away too much, but I mean, give us something more to figure out. We need more pieces of the puzzle to put it together!!

Also in the non existent Comic-Book-to-Movie News, the FIRST OFFICIAL SUICIDE SQUAD TRAILER CAME OUT (here). ‘But, Miranda, you seem more excited about this movie than your favorite superhero’s movie’ but this is coming out this year and there is an actual trailer for this movie. This is much more important.

I haven’t watched it yet because I have a life outside of lazing around on the internet, so I don’t really have anything to say about it.

Star Wars is Better

Miranda wrote a post about how Star Trek is better than Star Wars, but allow me to tell you why I (and most of the world) think Star Wars is better than Star Trek.

Star Trek is a very technical series. It feels like it was written just for science fiction lovers. Star Wars appeals to lots of people with different tastes. Action for action-lovers, humor, romances for the romantics, Ewoks for the children (or anyone born after the Ewok Line – hahahahahaha!), and music you’ll be singing the rest of your life.

Star Wars is surrounded by so many themes about love, family, sacrifice, and willpower. Star Trek  just isn’t entertaining enough to convey those themes to me.

This is just my personal opinion, but Star Wars is simply more awesome.

Star Trek is Better

Now, you might see Julia’s post on Star Wars, but let me tell you, STAR TREK IS WAY BETTER! Here are some reasons on why Star Trek is so much more awesome :

  1. Star Trek’s movies are less confusing. Star Wars’ movies aren’t in order, and is hard to keep track on which is which. There are so many Star Wars movies now that it’s hard to remember all of them. Star Trek has only a few movies, and they are in order, which is much simpler.
  2. Star Wars is just space cowboys fighting. It has a too simple plot, and is so typical. Star Trek, on the other hand, makes you think. People don’t like to think when watching movies, but it’s not hard to understand. The plot makes sense, you jus have to understand everything. People hate the things they don’t understand.
  3. Star Trek basically predicted the future. Star Trek predicted IPads, Facetime, cell phones, and a bunch of other things. If you don’t believe me, re-watch Star Trek and you can see for yourself.
  4. There is more Star Trek than Star Wars. Including Star Trek : The Next Generation,  Voyager, Deep Space 9, and Enterprise (and soon to be 12 more movies). All of the canon runtime material is over 22 days, and Star Wars only has three movies (not counting the prequels). The total runtime in all the Star Wars movies is less than 14 hours (NOT INCLUDING THE NEWEST MOVIE). That’s not very long.
  5. Star Trek is created using real-world problems and recreating them. Star Trek deals with racial issues, homosexuality, death, and even AIDS. Though is was at times overdone, it still had a message to give, but Star Wars doesn’t. Did you know that the first televised mixed-racial kiss was on Star Trek? I didn’t think so.

That ends my true, factual rant. Go watch Star Trek.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

On December 18, 2015, the world is most likely going to collapse. The seventh Star Wars movie is finally on its way! Yay! As you probably already know, Disney bought the rights to Star Wars a couple years ago and they chose J.J. Abrams to direct the film.

Hopefully, this movie will at least meet the high standards set by episodes IV, V, VI, or maybe exceed it..?…?..

Batman vs Superman

Hello, it’s me

So, Batman vs Superman is coming out March 25, 2016, and the fan base is pretty excited. We’ve been waiting for this movie to come out for close to three years, and the time is almost here. The first trailer came out April 17 of this year, and the second one came out just a day ago (December 2, 2015)! Batman vs Superman doesn’t only have Batman and Superman in it. The movie also includes Doomsday (according to the second trailer), Lex Luthor and Wonder Woman. The second trailers gives a lot more information about the movie than the first, but the first has small hints, too.

For those of you who still haven’t seen the trailer, click for the first trailer here and the second trailer here .

But be warned, the movie is PG-13 and the trailers probably are, too.

Have fun becoming obsessed!

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part II

The Hunger Games finale is finally upon us. The conclusion of what the popular Youtube Channel “Screen Junkies” would refer to as “a smart girl’s Twilight” is a must-see. While, in my opinion, not as fantastic as the first three, you will not be let down by the thrilling fourth installment.

For those of you who have read the book, you will be pleased to find out that Mockingjay, Part II closely follows the storyline of the book. For those of you who haven’t read the books… You’ll get to find out who Katniss ends up with! Just kidding. Kinda. You’ll definitely find out who dies, though!

This movie plays with your emotions a lot! I cried a total of two times during this movie, but I have the emotional strength of a slice of cheese, you may not cry so many times…

Make sure to get tickets soon!

Hunger Games Mockingjay (part 1)

The new Hunger Games movie is good but there was not enough action. Having more plot rather than an actual Hunger Games. The action scenes are Katnis getting choked by Peeta. Katniss blowing up a plane. The scene when the capitol blows up a hospital killing everyone who is injured. It all starts with her hiding in District 13. They want her to be the Mockingjay but she wants them to save Peeta and the others. Finnick is ruined because he doesn’t have Annie. Peeta is getting mind controlled to say the Capitol is not wrong. Giving themes that war would be bad getting people killed. Versus the idea that there slaves and having the Capitol boss them around. Peeta saying the Capitol is good makes everyone angry, they agree and she gets the demands. Betrre makes weapons for Katniss and Gale giving him a crossbow and Katniss with special arrows like normal, fire, and explosive, now she is kind of like Green Arrow. They video tape her to make problems with the Capitol. She sings a song which is weird which makes the people blow up a dam that makes power. The song is about hanging out at a place where a person was hanged. So its like you want to hang out at a prison or a graveyard and a place where a serial killer used to live. Then Gale does a mission to grab the tributes and get out. With Betres hacking skills Finnick tells how President Snow uses poison to kill people, but he turns on the power but he lets them in. This movie was more boring compared to the others I give it a 6 out of ten.

Big Hero Six

I just recently watched Big Hero Six Disneys new comic book movie based on Marvel comics. It also has a cameo of Stan Lee showing that the father of one of the characters is Stan Lee. In it you meet a character that does a game called bot fighting were he tricks a mobster thinking he has a weak. But then he uses his bot and destroys the oppent. The brother of the main character works at a college for nerds. Then he decides he wants to go to the college and meets the main characters. He decides at the presentation to use these magnets which are wanted by a rich man. But suddenly a fire happens and kills his brother and the principal of the college.  He then finds Baymax a healer robot. He then finds the villan who uses his magnets to fight. He then transforms Baymax into a fighting robot. But gets beat by the sure number of the magnets. Then the other characters become superhero’s. One having a little ball which explodes and sticks. One with a laser daggers on his arm. Another with a suit which gives him a flamethrower and supper hops. Last person with a razor rollerblades. When plotwist the villain is the principal who wants revenge from the rich guy who killed his daughter. HE USES a black hole but in there they save the daughter but baymax dies. But in his hand they find a chip with all his data. Last they rebuild him and there’s a happy ending. I give this movie a 9 out of 10.

New Batman

I am scared what DC will do to the new batman. Luckily there are no bat nipples on this suit. Also Ben Afleck will be playing him. At least this movie can’t be worse than Batman and Robin. That movie had so many puns that I wanted to unsee that movie. Also the fact that Ben already was in a superhero movie which he ruined. That movie was called daredevil which makes him lose his credibility. The movie also will be a crossover with Batman Vs. Superman. Of course Batman will win all he needs to do is buy some kryptonite then kill him. Also DC planned out their next movies with Wonder woman, Aquaman the most hated superhero, and Cyborg the first black superhero. But they will have to verse marvel with Marvel civil war. Last, you replaced a good Batman, Christen Bale, with a terrible one.Screen Shot 2014-11-13 at 2.50.18 PM

Movie Review The Iron Giant

This movie is a classic but not a lot of people know about it. It is about how a giant robot from another planet comes to Earth. A little boy befriends the giant and teaches it to speak. But the government are after it. The setting is during the cold war in the 1950s in a small little town. The boy tries to hide the giant from a man from the CIA. He then meets a man who lets the giant eat scrap from the dump. It also has some anti war symbol. The giant is actually a death weapon but he only fights back when he sees a gun. In the end the CIA member then decides to call in a nuke. He then realizes that the town will be destroyed and everyone will die. The boy snaps the giant out of a war trance saying “You don’t have to be a weapon.” Spoiler The giant sacrifices itself so that the people can live. He dies while saying “Superman.” It is very sad and will make you cry. But in the end he gets his own statue. But also in the end you see his hand crawling towards his body. I would give this movie a 9 out of 10.Screen Shot 2014-11-13 at 2.31.07 PM
